Father: John Adam Klinger
Mother: Susannah Romberger

 The son of John Adam & Susannah (Romberger) Klinger, in 1860 he was a laborer living with his family in Upper Paxton Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

A Civil War veteran, he served two terms of service:

1. A Civil War veteran, he served with a drafted regiment but given that he was he was underage and lied about it, it is more likely he enlisted as a substitute. (Service records for the regiment in question are not always thorough.) He enlisted in Dauphin County October 30, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg, November 2 as a private with Co. I, 177th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company August 7, 1863.

2. Enlisted at the stated age of nineteen in Harrisburg September 5, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 6 as a private with Co. H, 210th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 30, 1865.

He married Sarah Jane Zimmerman October 15, 1865, in Washington Township, Dauphin County, and they had the following known children:

William: b: April 17 1874
Lillie: b: April 19, 1874
Rose May: b: Dec. 8, 1882 (married Walter Harrison Corder)
Solomon: b. April 26, 1886
