Funeral Mass for former Frederick resident, Velma Marie Wasinger age 89, of Athens, Texas will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at the St. Helen Catholic Church, 507 E. Highview Avenue, Frederick, Oklahoma with Rev. Fr. Joseph David officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. A Rosary and visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Wasinger passed away Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Lakeland House in Athens, Texas. Velma Marie (Lang) Wasinger was born on January 29, 1933, in Ellis, Kansas to Ted and Lydia (Hertel) Lang.
On August 4, 1956, she and Edmund "Eddie" Wasinger were united in marriage in Ellis, Kansas.
She attended Ellis Public Schools, graduating from Ellis High School in 1951. Velma previously had worked at the Yellow Daisy Florist in Frederick and later as secretary of the Frederick Elementary School for many years. She was a member of the St. Helen Catholic Church in Frederick where she was active in the Women's Guild.
She is survived by four children, Greg Wasinger and his wife Tracy of Iowa Park, Texas, David Wasinger and his wife Cary of McKinney, Texas, Steve Wasinger and his wife Sherry of Athens, Texas, and Julie McCurley and her husband Ryan of Roanoke, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Martha Wasinger of Frederick, Oklahoma;
eleven grandchildren, Gregory Wasinger and his wife Katie, Whitney King and her husband Adam, Tyler Wasinger and his wife Domonique; Amber Knox and her husband Michael, Emily Totte and her husband Kacy, Colton Wasinger, Jacob Wasinger and his wife Heather, Dalton Wasinger, Savannah Wasinger, Garrett McCurley, and Gavin McCurley; and eleven great-grandchildren, Trey Wasinger, Carl King, Olivia King, Cooper King, Gavin Johnston, Kendall Wasinger, Graham Wasinger, Kye Knox, Kolt Knox, Blaine Totte, and Vivien Wasinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Lydia Lang, one brother, Don Lang; one sister, Sylvia Staab; her husband, Edmund "Eddie" Wasinger; one son, Keith Wasinger; and one grandson, Nicholas Wasinger.
