He was a North Stokes High School graduate, a Vietnam War veteran and a retired truck driver for Roadway.
Zane was preceded in death by his parents, Ham and Minnie Ashby Shelton; two brothers: Bobby Shelton, George Shelton; and two sisters, Magdelene Bowman and Ruth Cartrette.
Zane was married to Kaylene Shelton and they had two children, Randy Shelton and Brandee Shemo. His pride and joy were his three grandsons: Taylor Shelton, Christian Shemo and Brandon Shemo. He is also survived by sister, JoAnne Bailey, and brother, Roger Shelton.
In his free time, he enjoyed working on projects around his home, reading old western novels, helping friends in his community and spending quality time with his family. His smile and laughter were infectious, and his stories will be missed.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel followed by a Celebration of Life service at 3 p.m. Otherwise friends will be received at the home of his daughter Brandee Shemo.
