Frances "Fanny" Leighty, daughter of Henry Leighty and Sarah Smith Leighty, married in 1847 Fayette County Pennsylvania, to John Henry Merrel.
They had six children: John, William H, Stephen S., Lycurgus, J. Milton, and Margaret. Two of the boys, Stephen S. and J. Milton died as toddlers. William Henry died age 24. Those three are on the same four-sided grave marker with their parents. Also William Henry Leighty's two young children.
Before 1856 the Leighty family moved to Vermont, Fulton County, Illinois where John Henry Merrel died in 1860.
