Died of wounds he received in Civil War after leaving the Soldier's Hospital on Staten Island, NY. His sister, Martha ( Eliza) Renoud and a friend, Miss Mouton, would go to David's Island, off New Rochelle, New York, to visit Martha's brother, Elias and other soldiers. Elias was wounded in the Civil War and after it's end, he was sent to the hospital, De Camp General Hospital, on David's Island. They would bring cakes, clothing and bandages to the soldiers.The hospital was named for Dr. Samuel G. De Camps. Thadeus Davids owned the island and it was rented to the United States government, in 1862. Confederate soldiers were also housed there during the war.
Elias's final days had him living in Maine, according to the records.

In 1900, he is living in an old soldiers home in the town of Bath, in the County of Steuben, New York. The name of the facility is the New York State Solders and Sailors Home. He is 68 years old.

Enlisted as a Private on 31 August 1861 at the age of 28

Enlisted in Company E, Captain George W. Merritt's 51st Volunteer Infantry Regiment New York (commanded by Col. Edward Ferrero) on 31 August 1861. Called into service by Governor E.D. Morgan.

Wounded on December 13, 1862 at Fredericksburg ( VA). He received a gunsot wound to the left arm. In hosptal at David's Island, New York, Medically Released April,63,June 63, Aug. 63, In Hosp.,September, Oct 63,Nov,63,Dec,63 He was at New York at the end of his service.

Discharged Company E, 51st Infantry Regiment New York on 31 August 1864 in New York, NY.
