William Daniel was likely born in Virginia, if not in North Carolina. William appeared in numerous records in Granville, Johnston, Rowan, and Wake Counties in NC until around 1784, when he received a land grant in northeast Georgia, in an area that became Elbert County in 1790. William was married to Nancy, whose family of origin is unknown as of 2023. William and his wife appeared as parties to numerous land transactions in Georgia over a period of roughly 15 years. They owned land near the Georgia/SC border, and seem to be the William Daniel family found in 1800 in Pendleton District, South Carolina, as their next door neighbor Thomas Haney was a close family friend from back in Elbert County.

Note Regarding Family of Origin: His likely father, James Daniel, who was married to Elizabeth Woodson, appeared in local NC land records as early as the 1750s. Y-DNA confirms a close relationship between descendants of eldest son Allen Daniel and other Daniels believed to be sons of James and Elizabeth. But, the exact relationship has yet to be confirmed as of 2023. In addition to Y-DNA, ages and geography make it very possible that James and Elizabeth were William's parents, and that Woodson Daniel of North Carolina was his brother. Captain John Daniel, who left NC for SC, and then settled in Elbert County, was likely a close cousin of William Daniel, based on Y-DNA. Y-DNA is the most accurate DNA tool, as it remains constant for hundreds of years.

William and Nancy, while living in North Carolina, had sons Allen and William Jr, plus daughters Agnes, Elizabeth, Nancy, and Charity. Allen Daniel, born in 1772, was the eldest, and was likely born in Wake County. The youngest child was likely Charity, who married Elisha Johnson, whose brother Aaron Johnson married Charity's older sister Elizabeth. Agnes married Thomas Keys, while Nancy married John Adam Gaar of Elbert County. Allen Daniel married Mary Jones and became a prominent Georgian in the early 1800s.
