(Special Dispatch to The Herald.) OAKLAND, April 14. —Mrs. Cornelia Selby Kempff, wife of Rear Admiral Louis Kempff of the United States navy, died this evening at her residence at the Hotel Metropole. She was taken sick with pneumonia but a few days ago. It was not expected serious results would follow, but the disease developed rapidly, and after less than a week of sickness she passed away at 10:15 o'clock tonight.
Rear Admiral Kempff returned from his command on the Asiatic station three weeks ago. He had been separated from his wife and family for some years, while he was at Manila. China and Japan, and his return only to stand at his wife's deathbed within a few weeks was very sad. Mrs. Kempff was a member of the Selby family, and married Admiral Kempff in San Francisco some years ago. She has been with the admiral in Washington. New York and at many of his various stations, and for a number of years was with him at Mare Island, where the admiral was commandant. When the admiral was ordered to the Asiatic station she remained in Oakland with her family, at the Metropole, and welcomed him upon his safe return home. She leaves three children, the eldest of whom is a young officer of the government steamer Albatross; another is a student at the state university, and a daughter, Cornelia Kempff."
