From Jenny
'While at East Lane Secondary Modern School he was selected for the school eleven, firstly as a back then in goal. Then came selection for Middlesex County and London Schools, touring Germany in 1950 and ultimately England Schoolboys gaining his International cap in 1950. He was then accepted onto the ground staff of Chelsea Football Club and played for Chelsea Juniors on many occasions as well as touring Holland.
Following that he played for the Army in Africa during his National Service. On his return to England, Phil was offered a contract to play as a full time professional for Chelsea but after much thought he turned the offer down for reasons of his own but he remained a staunch Chelsea supporter.
Philip passed away on 27 January 1996 and his granddaughter was born 2 days later and was named Chelsea.
Philip was a lovely man, very kind and considerate and we still miss him terribly.'
