LOWE, CAPTAIN JOE E. GRAPEVINE -- Joe Ernest Lowe was born March 26, 1933 in Teague, Texas to Ernest H. and Mary Lowe. He went to be with the Lord on April 4, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cynthia McCollum Lowe, 3 children, Gary Lowe, wife Becky, Kathy Giggleman, husband Gene, Karen Hoover, husband Joe, 9 grandchildren, Sarah Lowe, Jennifer Adair & husband Alex, Joshua Lowe, Kristin Burns & husband Heath, Lauren Giggleman, Katherine Rhinewalt & husband Daniel and Eli Hoover, 1 great grandchild, Avery. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Stovall. Captain Lowe was a 1950 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and 1955 graduate of North Texas State. An Air Force ROTC student at North Texas, Captain Lowe received an Air Force Commission of 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation. He entered pilot training and served 7 1/2 years with the Strategic Air Command as a pilot on the Boeing B-47 attaining the rank of Captain. Returning to civilian life he was a flight engineer, co-pilot and Captain for Braniff Airways for 20 years. After the demise of Braniff he was a Boeing 707 Captain for Southern Air Transport and Buffalo Airways, serving also as Chief Pilot and Director of Operations there. Captain Lowe spent six years as a highly respected Executive Boeing 707 Captain and instructor pilot. He flew many famous dignitaries and famous personalities to all parts of the world. After 43 years and 22,000 hours of flying he became a Boeing 727 Simulator instructor pilot for American Airlines. He eventually did substitute teaching for Hurst- Euless- Bedford, and Keller school districts. Captain Lowe was a member of the Methodist Church, Air Line Pilots Associations, and Braniff Silver Eagles. Family and friends viewing, 10-11:30 AM, Tuesday, April 15, 2008 with services following at 11:30 AM. Interment, with military honors, at DFW National Cemetery Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 1:30 pm.
