Bardstown, Nelson Co, KY

Virginia Edelen, 79, Bardstown, died Friday, April 13, 2007, at her residence. Edelen, a native of Fredericktown, was a longtime resident of Bardstown. She was a retired beautician and the former owner/operator of Ginny's Beauty Shop for more than 25 years. She was past-president of the Nelson County Homemakers where she was awarded "Homemaker of the Year" in 1995. She was an active member of St. Thomas Parish and served as the cantor for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Arthur and Lucetta Gertrude Taylor Wathen; and four brothers, Tony Wathen, Paul Wathen, Charlie Wathen and Joe Wathen.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, James Marion "Cedar" Edelen; four daughters, Barbara Hawkins, Kathy Brotzge, Martha Soley and Trudi Muller, all of Louisville; six grandchildren; three sisters, Margie Hamilton and Mary Breeden, both of Bardstown, and Edie Miller, Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Church with burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Pohl will officiate. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home including a prayer service at 5 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Thomas Church or Hospice of Nelson County. Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
