At the age of 20 Joseph P. Myers was mustered in as a Private, Company A, 69th New York Infantry National Guard on June 20th 1916 at New York City. His service number was 89188. The regiment was mobilized for federal service and re-designated Company A, 165th Infantry Regiment, 42nd United States Infantry Division, also known as the Rainbow Division. He served overseas November 5th 1917 till his death July 29th 1918. He fought in the engagements; Foret Porray, Baccarat, Champagne Chataeu-Tierry, Soissens. He resided with his mother Mrs. Helen Myers at 864 Second Avenue, New york, New York; who was list as the next of kin.
