Enlisted, July 24, 1917, in Troop C, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. Squadron A reorganized for the World War as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. He was assigned to Company C. Transferred, Jan. 18, 1918, to the Signal Corp ( air service ), embarking to France July 15, 1918, returning from France June 29, 1919. Discharged from the service, July 19, 1919.

Occupation; Heads of the firm, Johnson & Murphy, blacksmiths & wheelwrights, Aiken , South Caroline.
