Nellie Virginia Giles Hartberger, 76, of Blue Ridge, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 10, 2008. She was preceded in death by her son, Randy N. Hartberger; her father, Ernest (Pete) Powers; mother, Ethel Powers; and a brother, Clarence Giles. Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, James L. Hartberger; two sons, Michael D. Hartberger and wife, Wanda, of Blue Ridge, and Mark Hartberger and wife, Tammie, of Goodview; four grandchildren, Matt Hartberger and fiance, Olivia, Travis Hartberger, Ryan N. Hartberger and Chelsea Hartberger; two sisters, Louise Harris and husband, Earl, and Esther Bowyer and husband, Aubrey; five half sisters, Frances, Nora Mae, Peggy Ann, Elizabeth and Becky; and a half brother, Tommy Giles. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008, from the Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Harry Leland, the Rev. Kenneth Butterworth and the Rev. Joey Phillips officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 12, 2008, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those wishing to make donations, please consider the Shady Grove Baptist Church Remodeling Fund which will be appreciated by the family. Lotz Funeral Home Vinton Chapel is serving the family.

Derwood and Carlie were Nellie's birth parents. Nellie was raised by her aunt, Ethel, who was the sister of Derwood, after Carlie died.
