He was born Feb. 22, 1931 in Kenney, a son of Emery and Margaret Linton Mears. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. He married Mary "Cat" Wey on Oct. 11, 1951 in Shelbyville. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Colleen (Dean) Collins; a son, Gregory (Glenda) Mears; three granddaughters, Megan (Micah) Schultz, Wendy (C.J.) LaMont and Cassie (Damion) Hankins; one grandson, Alex Mears; one step-granddaughter, Michele (Josh) Brown; one step-grandson, Brian (Alicia) Mayberry; two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie LaMont and Mason Schultz; three step-great-grandchildren, Avarie Brown, Allyx and Cohnor Langley and one sister, Jane Farmer.
He was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran, serving during the Korean conflict.
