David H. Slate, 60, Anderson, died April 9, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after an extended illness.
He was born July 27, 1947, in Carroll County, Ga., and lived in Anderson the past 38 years. He graduated from the University of Georgia.
He was a supervisor for General Motors for more than 30 years and retired from Delphi.
He was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church and the Madison County Humane Society. He dearly loved his canine companions, George, Bessy and Lilly.
Survivors include his wife, Susan (Edmonson) Clendenen Slate of Anderson, whom he married Feb. 16, 2003; two brothers, Donald (Paulette) Slate of Douglasville, Ga., and Earl Slate of Temple, Ga.; a sister, Frances (Clark) Stapler of Bremen, Ga.; sister-in-law, Connie Slate of Bremen, Ga.; two stepchildren, Kelly Jo (Shane) Kimmerling of Fishers and Ryan Clendenen (fiancee, Misty) of Anderson; a stepgranddaughter, Kelsey Jo Kimmerling; two stepgrandsons, Brayden and Ashton, looking forward to twin stepgranddaughter and stepgrandson expected this spring; mother-in-law, Norma Edmonson of Anderson; brother-in-law, R. Phillip Edmonson of Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe G. and Katie Elizabeth (Dearing) Slate; two brothers, Harold and John; and a sister, Elizabeth.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with the Rev. Dennis Zirkle of Meadowbrook Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison County Humane Society.
