Erin was among the first female US Mail Carriers around 1938. I remember stories that you had to have war stamps to purchase tires, gasoline, shoes and sugar. Erin delivered groceries along with the mail to the rural area around Rockwood, Waldrip and Shields. They carried eggs, baby chicks, pelts and Holsom bread.
You might remember the Clover Grill Cafe. Erin owned and operated the cafe in Santa Anna, Texas around 1947 to the late 1960's. Some of the people that worked there were Annie Merle Morris (cook), Mrs. Crouger (dishwasher), I remember the cherry cream pies and the chicken fried steak ala carte. Mitch remembers the chocolate milk, the chocolate pie and the chicken fried steak ala carte. Nannie use to pay me a penny a fly.
