He was born in Weston on March 8, 1946, a son of the late Floyd Harris and Etta Alkire Harris. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by three sisters: Alice May Harris, Jenny May Harris, and Linda Mae Alkire; and three brothers: Robert Harris, Floyd Harris, and Charlie Alkire.
Forever cherishing their memories of Jerry are one son, Joey Alkire; two brothers: Lloyd Alkire and wife, Mary, and Roger Harris, both of Weston; one sister, Becky Alkire also of Weston; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Hoss.
A man of faith, he was a long-standing member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Weston. The words of Proverbs 22:1, "A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold" rightly describes Jerry's life. He was a man who valued integrity and hard work, traits that were evident in his long employment at WV Glass Factory, where he was a dedicated and respected employee until his retirement. Jerry also possessed a love for the simple joys of life, finding great pleasure in tending to his lawn and spending quality time with his beloved dog, Hoss.
