Company C, 17th South Carolina per Register of Soldiers and Sailors who died in Federal Prisons and Military Hospitals in the North, by Igmire & Ericson. However, he does not appear on the muster rolls, or in any of memoirs and histories of the 17th SCVI reviewed thus far.

Update: He appears in J.W. Kirkland Jr's "Broken Fortunes SC Dead in CSA Service" as F.M. Jowers and there is an FM Jowers listed in the Combined Service Record. Kirkland's book, however, indicates he served in the 17th SCV Militia. The Combined Service Record lists neither F Jones nor F.M. Jowers. Adding to the confusion, the record of death and burial in the record appears to have a "J" rather than "F".
