Elizabeth Witherspoon's parents were Elizabeth "Lizzie" Roane Bres Marable (later Giles) and John Benjamin Marable, Sr. (both buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, TX.) Her mother is buried under the last name of Giles since she got remarried to Issac C. Giles after Mr. Marable's death (Mr. Giles is buried in Elmwood).

Her paternal grandfather (father of John Benjamin Marable, Sr.) was Dr. George John Boswell Marable, a physician in Louisiana; and her paternal grandmother and first wife of Dr. Marable was Catherine Anne Faulkner Marable(both buried in Christ Church Cemetery in Balstrop, LA). Her maternal grandmother was Mary Agnes Bres, born in TN. She is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg, MS.

Elizabeth was the wife of prominent businessman and civic leader James Hamilton Gordon (J.G.) Witherspoon of Ada, OK. They were married 50 years.

They were married Oct. 27, 1907 in Holdenville, OK in Indian Territory. This date was also the birthday of his sister Mary Adella Witherspoon. Right after their marriage they moved to Shawnee, OK. Her husband worked as a saleman for Cudahy Meats for several years. Elizabeth and J.G. moved to Ada in 1916. J.G. founded and operated the Witherspoon Finance Co. in Ada for many years.

Before her marriage she went to secretarial school. She was active in the First United Methodist Church for 50 years and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and WSCS (Women's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church). She was a fine homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was always extremely understanding, patient, friendly, and positive. She was fun to be around.

She was mother of Dorothy Elizabeth Price (buried in Rosedale Cemetery in Ada, OK), Phillip Edgar Witherspoon (buried Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, TX), and Gordon Marable Witherspoon (buried in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, TX) and two other children that died in childhood - Mary Adella Witherspoon (buried in Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, OK) and Joseph (Joe) Ray "Bunny" Witherspoon (buried in Rosedale Cemetery in Ada, OK).

She had 7 grandchildren and 4 sisters Mary Agnes "Mollie" Marable Taylor (buried Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, OK), George "Georgie" "Honey" Boswell Marable Taylor (buried in Holdenville Cemetery, Holdenville, OK), Ann Katherine "Kathleen" Marable Lenhart (buried in El Reno, OK), and Callie Bres Marable Montgomery Conner (buried in Oakwood-Wewoka OK), and 2 brothers John Benjamin Marable, Jr. and Joseph McGuire Witherspoon (both buried in Elmwood in Bowie, TX). Elizabeth is buried next to her beloved husband J.G. Witherspoon, son Joseph (Joe) Ray "Bunny" Witherspoon, daughter Dorothy Elizabeth Price and her husband Orval, and great grandson Matthew Alvin Files.

She had several strokes and that was believed to be her cause of death. She died peacefully in her home.

Also, listed below is her sister George "Georgie" Marable Taylor who Find a Grave has listed as a half sibling. This is an error. Georgie was a full sister.
