Enlisted, Nov. 7, 1892, in the 3rd US Cavalry, discharged as a Sergeant,Nov. 6, 1897.

Enlisted, May 9, 1898, in Troop C Cavalry, Brooklyn, NY. Mustered-in for service, May 20, 1898, at Camp Black, Hempstead, NY, with Troop C, NY Volunteer Cavalry, in the Spanish American War. After training at Camp Alger, VA, Troop C shipped out for Puerto Rico, July 28, 1898, aboard the transport Massachusetts, from Newport News, VA. Landing ashore at Playa, port of Ponce, PR, August 4, 1898. Participated and saw combat in the Puerto Rico Campaign, at Coamo and Asomante.

Aug. 10, 1898, near Coamo, Puerto Rico, as a member of Corporal Norton's reconnaissance squad encounter a company of Spanish soldiers, along with Trooper Commiskey, dismounted and retuned fire, allowing the remainder of the squad to withdraw.

Returning to the States, September 10, 1898, aboard the transport Mississippi, docking at Jersey City, NJ. On October 1, 1898, the City of Brooklyn, held a parade for it's returning soldiers. Discharged from volunteer service, Nov. 25, 1898, Brooklyn, NY. He saw additional service, with Troop C, in the Croton Dam Strike of April, 1900. Date of discharge from Troop C unknown.
