Mary Jane Lisby Cagle (July 1, 1937 - August 25, 2023) Mary Jane Lisby Cagle, age 86, passed away peacefully in the evening of August 25, 2023, at Hospice of East Texas, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born on July 1, 1937, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, to her parents, Olen Lee Lisby and Clara Cook Lisby. Mary Jane was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and dedicated over three decades of her life to her career as an Administrator at the Medical and Surgical Clinic in Tyler, Texas. Her commitment and hard work left an indelible mark on the institution and the people she served. In 1956, Mary Jane married the love of her life, John Thurman Cagle, and together they shared 51 wonderful years until his passing in 2007. They made Chapel Hill their home and were blessed with the joy of raising two remarkable daughters. She is survived, and loved, by her two daughters: Cindy Cagle Gaddis (Jeff Gaddis) and Cheryl Cagle Sawyer (Keith Sawyer); two grandsons who brought immense pride and joy to her life: Cameron Gaddis (Whitney Gaddis) and Jonathan Gaddis; and two very special great-granddaughters: Cecilee Jane Gaddis and Annslee Clare Gaddis. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, and three siblings: Jere Smith, Olen Lee Lisby, Jr., and Dexter Lisby. Mary Jane was known for her warm and outgoing personality, making friends wherever she went. She was especially proud her eldest grandson, Cameron Gaddis, who served in the US Army with distinction, earning a Purple Heart and Bronze Star during two tours of duty in Afghanistan. He currently serves as Master Sergeant with the Florida State ROTC. Mary Jane found joy in exploring new places and dining out, often sharing these adventures with her grandson Jonathan and her caregiver, sidekick, and partner in crime, Janice, fondly known as the "Thelma" to Mary Jane's "Louise."

In her leisure time, Mary Jane enjoyed playing mahjong and poker, often with her own set of rules and, purportedly, a $12 maximum limit. She had a passion for collecting decorative chickens of all shapes, colors, and sizes, a hobby that brought her much happiness. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to one of Mary Jane's favorite charities: Hospice of East Texas, Williams Cemetery in Chapel Hill, the SPCA of East Texas, or a worthy charity of your choice. Mary Jane Lisby Cagle will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, love, and a zest for life will continue to inspire those who loved her.

A service to celebrate Mary Jane's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2023 with Rev. Kenneth Meadows officiating in the Chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time. She will be laid to rest at Williams Cemetery.
