William Horner (1746-1824) hauled a four horse load of beef butchered on his place in Orange County, North Carolina to General Washington at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777/78 . For his service to the Revolution, including sundries furnished and cash paid the Militias of North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina he was awarded 4 pounds, 6 shillings, 4 pence, by the Hillsboro District of North Carolina. He was also awarded land grants in what later became Tennessee.
