Tom was born on Oct. 31, 1924 to Thomas Gardiner Baxter and Caroline Marie Squire.
He attended West High School and the U of U. Tom served in England with the Army Air Corps during World War II as an electric engineer. His job was to keep airplanes patched to the best of their ability to keep them flying. After the war Tom served a mission for the LDS Church in the Northwest, mainly in Astoria, Oregon. He married Geraldine (Gerry) Matley in the Salt Lake Temple on Oct. 7, 1949. She returned to our Heavenly Father March 31, 1989. Tom's work with Eimco was as an electrical engineer. Tom served the LDS Church in many callings. He loved temple work. As a High Priest, he loved doing Home Teaching and having the young teachers as his partners, they too will miss him. For many years Tom worked in the Boy Scout program, he loved working with these young men. Tom's hobbies were painting and playing his organ. Many of his paintings grace our walls. He faithfully took organ lessons till the end. Tom met me at the Jordan River Temple. We were in the same sealing group. I'm Eva Dodge Baxter. We were married Sept. 17. 1993 in the Jordan River Temple. Both of his wives were challenged with medical problems, but his love helped us so very much. Our needs were always supported by his patience and deep understanding. Throughout his life he traveled to many countries, both in Europe and also the Orient.
Survived by his wife, Eva; sons, David Baxter of Sandy; Randy Baxter of Phoenix; and Steven (Carol) Baxter of Murray; stepdaughters, Judy (Patrick) Borges of Magna; Laurie Willis of Portland, OR; Wendy (Noble) Smith of Sandy; 11 grandchildren; brother, John (Dorothy) Baxter.
Funeral dervices will be held Friday, April 11, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in the Crescent 4th Ward Chapel, 949 E. 10600 So. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, and Friday 9:30-10:15 a.m. at the Church.
Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
