Emily, at age 17 married Stephen L. Combs, 28 Oct 1867. When her husband died, she was 40 with 9 children (7 sons and 2 daughters). Emily was a descendant of several of Long Island's oldest families..the Seamans, the Joneses and the Browers. Through the Brower clan she traces her ancestry back to Princess Anneke Jans Bogardus, granddaughter of William of Orange, whose husband brought her from Holland to Nieuw Amsterdam in the early 17th century and whose granddaughter married Jacobus Brouwer, progenitor of the Brower clan on Long Island. Stephen Combs also descends from an old Long Island family. Mrs. Combs lived well into her 90's. (From newspaper article celebrating her 90th year in 1941).
