Enlisted, May 9, 1916, in Company C, 71st NY Infantry Regiment, New York City. Served with Company C, 71st NY Infantry , on the Mexican Boarder, 1916. Transferred to Company B, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division, Oct. 24, 1917. After training at Camp Wadsworth, SC, the 105th Machine Gun Battalion deployed to Europe, on May 18, 1918, aboard the Calomares, from Newport News, VA. He saw combat in both Belgium & France. Returning to the States, March 6, 1919, aboard the Leviathan, docking at Hoboken, NJ. He marched in the great " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division up 5th Avenue, in New York City, on March 25, 1919. Discharged, April 1, 1919, Camp Upton, NY.
