Sampson had another Brother, William T. Davis, who was wounded in battle at Perryville, KY. He was left for dead on the battlefield. His burial location is unknown.
----------
Sampson was a Private in the First Alabama Battalion, Company E.

Sampson was captured at Fort Morgan during the Battle of Mobile Bay. He was held as a POW at Elmira, NY, and was sick in the hospital at Fort Columbus, New York Harbor at the time of his death.

(Regarding the Note about his brother, William T., there's documentation that confederate soldiers left for dead at Perryville were buried in a mass grave on the battlefield by the landowner, after the union had buried their dead and left.) William T Davis was a 19yr old Private in the 33rd Alabama Infantry, Company A, having enlisted 02/22/1862. -- Mack (49246179)
