The family, Margaret, Peter, and their four daughters Leentje (Lena), Neeltje (Nellie), Meintje (Minnie) and Trijntje (Trena) emigrated to the US from the port of Amsterdam via the SS Nordam and arrived in New York on April 30, 1907 and arrived in Kalamazoo to settle in that same year where they built a home and started a celery farm in Comstock.
