Headie R. Bradley
July 11, 1921 - April 6, 2008
ELKHART - Headie Rojean (Wilkins) Bradley, 86, was born July 11, 1921, to the union of Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Luxora (Garrett) Wilkins in Coldwater, Mississippi.

She confessed Christ at an early age. She was united in holy matrimony to Scott George Bradley on Nov. 27, 1936, and to this union 10 children were born. God called her home on Sunday, April 6, 2008.

She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Tillye Johnson of South Bend, Ruby (Rev. Nichols) Cossey, Leannell (James) Parker and Rosie (Matt) Washington; a son, Andrew Bradley, all of Elkhart; two brothers, Standard Johnson Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., and Norris Evans of Chicago; 30 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Three special nieces she considered as daughters, Betty Stevenson, Martha Pratcher and Diana Williams-Jones, and a special friend who was as close as a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy (Tina) Lewis. Mrs. Bradley moved to the Elkhart area in 1976. She was a homemaker. She united with the Greater Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Nichols Cossey. She served on the missionary board and the kitchen committee until her health declined. She became "Big Mama" to everyone who knew her. Mrs. Bradley had a big heart; she loved everyone and helped everyone in need. Everyone she came in contact with became an instant family member. No one ever went hungry or homeless because of her loving kindness. She enjoyed cooking. One of her favorite sayings was: "Do Something with yourself!"

Preceding her in death were her husband, Scott George Bradley; her parents, Jim Wilkins, Mr. and Mrs. Standard and Luxcie Johnson; five sons, George, Williams, Jessie, Willie and Johnnie Bradley; four sisters, Missouri Williams, Beauty Maclin, Rosie Lee Johnson and Mamie Jeffries; three brothers, Hayward Wilkins, Walter Frank Johnson and Willie Lee Johnson; and three grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Headie R. Bradley will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 11, in the Greater Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 1829 Oakland Ave., Elkhart, where friends may call one hour before services. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
