Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home.
Donald was born Dec. 15, 1922, in New Orleans, La., the sixth and last surviving child of Anna Garic and William Herman Aertker. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1950 with a B.S. in civil engineering and earned M.S. degrees in civil engineering and engineering administration from Southern Methodist University.
Donald was a professional engineer and worked in the aerospace industry for General Dynamics more than 30 years. He was a member of both the National Society and Texas Society of Professional Engineers. A longtime parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, he was a devout and deeply spiritual man. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and they adored and treasured him.
In addition to his parents and siblings, Donald was preceded in death by two sons, Dr. Roger Aertker and Capt. Alan Aertker.
Survivors: His wife of 63 years, Peggy Case Aertker; children, Donald Rowland Aertker Jr. and wife, Eileen Kavy, Donna Aertker and husband, Dr. James H. Wright, Lawrence Aertker and wife, Jeanne Kaska, and Mark Aertker and wife, Mirtha Gomez; daughters-in-law, Peggy Wagner Aertker and Jean Henderson Aertker; grandchildren, Katherine Aertker Day and husband, Emmet, Cheryl Wright Schoellkopf and husband, Andrew, Evelyn Aertker Carlson and husband, Ben, Stephen Wright and wife, Rachel, Joseph Aertker, Anna Aertker Harrelson and husband, Jim, Robert Aertker and wife, Andrea, Benjamin Aertker, Ryan Aertker, Alice Aertker, Michael Wright, Devora Aertker, Leslie Aertker and Claudia Aertker; and great-grandchildren, Jack and Timmy Day.
