Griffis, husband of Mildred Elizabeth Carter-Griffis (deceased), Lera Uvalda Griffis (divorced), and Grace Thornton (divorced), father of Mack Henry Lee Griffis (see note), Leonard David Griffis, Robert Carlton Griffis, Wilton Arrol Griffis, Riley Allen Griffis, and Jack Lavelle Griffis.

Mack Henry Lee Griffis is the biological son of James Hinton Lee (Mildred's first husband), however Mack took Griffis as his surname and was raised in the home of Robert Roscoe Griffis and Mildred Etta Carter-Griffis. The five younger siblings are the children of Robert Roscoe Griffis and Mildred Elizabeth Carter-Griffis.

Mildred Etta Carter-Griffis died during childbirth on October 19, 1936. Robert Roscoe Griffis married twice following her death. He married Lera Uvalda Griffis, the daughter of Mildred's eldest sister, Macy Mazelle Carter-Griffis in 1941. This marriage ended in divorce, and he later married Grace Thornton. This marriage also ended in divorce.
