Leslie Delbert Hinshaw was the son of Verlin and Florence McLaughlin Hinshaw. He was born Feb 23 1909 near Rose Hill, Butler, KS and died Oct 14 1978 in Grand Junction, Mesa, CO from the effects of leukemia and the various treatments for it.

He married Birdean Hinshaw Jun 5 1929 in Wellington, Sumner, KS. They had two children: Arlene and Glen. The family moved to Denver in 1935 and then after his retirement from the US Post Office in 1972 they moved to Meeker, Colorado.

Leslie was employed as a teacher after his marriage. After moving to Colorado he worked a number of jobs of which one was for a bakery company and the last job was as a mailcarrier for the Post Office. His hobbies were hunting and fishing. He was a master flyfisherman and tied his own flies and sold them to others. He also made bamboo rods. He was a quiet, godly man.
