After moving to Colorado he worked a number of jobs of which one was for a bakery company and the last job was as a mailcarrier for the Post Office. His hobbies were hunting and fishing. He was a master flyfisherman and tied his own flies and sold them to others. He also made bamboo rods. He was a quiet, godly man.
