Age 28 years enlisted August 12, 1862, at Waddington, mustered in as Sergeant with Co. C. 142nd New York Infantry on September 29, 1862 Promoted to First Sergeant April 15, 1863, wounded in action, January 15, 1865, at Fort Fisher, North Carolina died of his wounds, January 23, 1865, on transport S. R. Spaulding.
Commissioned, not mustered, Second Lieutenant November 30, 1864, with rank from November 17, 1864

Arrival of the United States Hospital Transport, S.R. Spaulding.
The S.R. Spaulding, United States Hospital transport, arrived yesterday from Fort Fisher, bringing two hundred and thirty-eight officers and men, Assistant Surgeon G.P. JAQUETTE, U.S. Army, in charge.

Four deaths on the passage: Sergeant T.G. ALLISON, Company C, One Hundred and Forty-second Regiment New-York Volunteers; JOHN CRUEL, Company F. Third Regiment New-York Volunteers; JAS. HAMILTON, Company K, One Hundred and Forty-second Regiment New-York Volunteers; JACOB SLEWELLEN, Company D, Thirteenth Regiment Indiana Volunteers.

Capt. NEWTON J. HOTCHKISS, Company F, Sixth Regiment U.S.C. troops, died before the steamer started, and was buried a Fort Fisher; residence, unknown. Surgeon G.P. JAQUERTE has in his possession some small mementoes belonging to Capt. HOTCHKISS,which can be had by his friends on application to him, care Medical Director, Department of the East, New-York City.

This is the last of our wounded remaining at Fort Fisher.
The Spaulding made a splendid run from Fort Fisher to New-York, a distance of over 500 miles, in fifty hours.
