Senior Master Sgt. James Barber (U.S. Air Force Retired), 75, of Whispering Pines, N.C. died on Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Monroe and the Rev. Steve Johnson.
Burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today (Wednesday), from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home.
A native of Moore County, Mr. Barber was a son of the late Braxton Calvin and Mittie Margaret Fry Barber.
He retired in 1968 from the U.S. Air Force, having served in Korea and Vietnam. After retirement, he worked for 15 years as a maintenance supervisor for Imperial Corp. (now Koury Corp.) in Greensboro. He spent the next 12 years as the director of maintenance for Richmond County Schools, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Southern School Plant Managers Association, and was named the North Carolina Public School Maintenance Supervisor of the Year in 1992.
Mr. Barber is survived by his wife, Alice Davis Barber; sisters, Eva Dowd and Betty Brown, both of Pinehurst, Margaret White of West End and Mable Moore of Spartanburg, S.C.
