Hjalmar Peterson, who performed as bondkomiker "Olle i Skratthult", was born February 7, 1886 in Munkfors, Värmland, Sweden to Johannes Petersson and Kristina Karlsdotter. Olle was America's most beloved Swedish-language entertainer of the 20th century. His recording of "Nikolina" sold over 100,000 copies prior to the great depression. After spending his later years performing for the Swedish Branch of the Salvation Army, he passed away June 24, 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
