He joined the Air Force after high school and was a retired Korea and Vietnam Veteran. During his time in the military, he traveled the world before settling with his family in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he worked at the State Capital and later retired from Maybelline Inc.
He enjoyed spending his time camping, visiting family, eating breakfast with his friends at McDonalds and was an active member of the VFW. He loved working puzzles and occasionally stepped up his game to have a fun night at the casino.
In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his first wife of fifty-four years, Linda Jean "Jeannie" Wood; their two sons, Steve and Joey Wood; grandson, Boone Hogan; his sister, Betty Williams Johnston; brother, Ronnie Wood; brother in law, Jim Padgett; and sister in law, Tina Rogers.
Charles is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Loyeta Allen Rico Wood; his daughters, Gail Stickney (Phillip) of Fayetteville, and Kim Allen (Neil) of Maumelle; son, Kenny Wood (Connie) of Heber Springs; daughter in law, Pam Wood of Cabot; sister, Barbara Elkins of Eupora, Mississippi; cousin, Larry Wood of Stewart, Mississippi; stepdaughter, Melissa Faucett (John) of Little Rock; stepson Doug Rico (Linda) of Heber Springs; sister in laws, Gereda Torres (Rudy), Lu Padgett, and Lois Hatfield (David) all of North Little Rock; long-time family friend, Pat Stickney of Jacksonville; grandchildren, April Thackeray (Richard), Tracie English (Jason), Aleisha Reynolds (Jake), Nikki Page (Adrian), Eleise Myers (Timmy), Shea Stickney (Andrea), Kristopher Allen (Katy), Daniel Allen (Audra), and Amanda Wood; five step-grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
Our dad loved Julie Dornblaser Hejny and watched her grow up. She lost her life in an accident and left behind a son, Walker and a daughter, Hazel with Cystic Fibrosis. Memorial gathering will be 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home with the memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Charles will be laid to rest after the service with military honors at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
