RED BAY, AL – James Neil Thompson, 83, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Southern Magnolia, Golden, MS. He was born in Red Bay, AL and was owner of Thompson Farm Supply. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as an usher and was a member of Gideon's International. He was a member of Bama Bass Club, enjoyed bass fishing and woodworking. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Thailand.

Services will be Saturday, August 26, 1 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, AL with Bro. Bill Harper officiating. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his son – Brian Thompson (Kristy); special friends – Shirley Cody and family; special nieces who knew him as Papa Neil and sisters-in-law – Quinnie Thompson and Joyce Henson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Weatherbee Thompson, parents, Douglas and Burnell Thompson and two brothers, Jerry Lee Thompson (Lynn) and Charlie Thompson.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Thompson, Craig Thompson, Clay Henson, Chris Henson, Vollie Pierce and Kenneth Pounders. Honorary pallbearers will be First Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class, members of Bama Bass Club and Hoyt Hubbard.

Visitation will be Friday, August 25, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL and Saturday, August 26, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to His Hands & Feet Ministry, c/o First Baptist Church, Red Bay, Al or Gideon's International.

The family expresses thanks to the staff of Southern Magnolia, Gentiva Hospice and Red Bay Hospital Rehab.
