7th U.S. Cavalry-Battle of the Little Big Horn. Morris was the son of William E. and Lavonia Tibbets Morris. Enlisted in the 7th Cavalry on September 21, 1875, at the age of 21 in Boston, MA. Previous occupation listed as salesman. He had brown hair, auburn eyes, fair complexion and was 5'7 1/2" tall. Half brother of Byron L. Tarbox, Company I(KIA at LBH). Morris fought in the valley and hilltop fights at the Battle of the Little Big Horn on June 25, 1876. Wounded in left breast while climbing the bluffs during the retreat from the valley. Sentenced to 15 days hard labor and loss of $13 for conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline in January 1877. Discharged for brawling on December 11, 1877, at Ft. Lincoln.
Married Sarah Abbie on December 7, 1879. One child, William E., Jr., was born on August 22, 1880.Morris served as a lawyer and municipal judge for 21 years in the 2nd District, Bronx, New York. Appointed captain, Company E, 69th Infantry, New York National Guard. Attended the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of the Little Big Horn on June 25, 1926. Died at a reported age of 75 at 7 a.m. on November 26, 1933.
