Jeweler and Watch Repairman Succumbs

J. W. Adams, who for the past four years has maintained a small jewelry and watch repair shop in Soda Springs, died at 1 a. m. Wednesday, after a serious operation. He had been in poor health for some time.

Little is known locally of the life of Mr. Adams; and at this writing efforts of officials to learn the names or whereabouts of relatives have been fruitless.

He came to Soda Springs in the fall of 1936 and established his little shop with a small sleeping room in the rear.

According to information gained from those with whom Mr. Adams had talked most, he was born in Toledo, Ohio, about fifty-four years ago; and has at least one brother and one sister from whom he has not heard for many years; and who might have preceded him in death.

When he was a young man he was an agate cutter, and established a wholesale stone cutting shop in Peoria, Illinois. This place, which was not insured, burned down.

He soon came west, to Lander, Wyoming, where he spent about four years in the oil fields. About 1924 he went to Pocatello and started a jewelry and repair business on North Main Street. He remained there for six years; and then went to Lima, Montana, which was his home address until he came to Soda Springs.

Mr. Adams made a good appearance, and was well informed. His outlook on life had been broadened by experience and travel. He was a good workman in his chosen field, and was honest in his business dealings. He was liked and respected by the many friends he had made in Soda Springs.

Burial rites were held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Whitman funeral home, with D. K. McLean offering the Invocation and delivering the sermon. Two songs, "I Walked In The Garden" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by a ladies chorus, consisting of Lila Lallatin, Agnes Tipton, Bernice Pickren, and Bee Wallace. Mrs. Gertrude Freeman played the organ.

Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, under direction of E. D. Whitman.
