The funeral of the late Lumon Gee, whose death occurred Monday afternoon, will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock from the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. J. Tripp, 1415 Portage street. Rev. Devinney, pastor of the Stockbridge avenue M. E. church, will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery. Kalamazoo Gazette December 30,1908 page 5

Luman attended school quite regularly until fifteen years old and he then assisted his father until his enlistment, September 12, 1861 in Company E, First Michigan Cavalry. He was later transferred to Company B, and served until after the close of the war, taking part in various engagements around Petersburg, being with Sheridan in the Shenandoah Valley, and present at Appomattox at the time of Lee's surrender. Although he had not yet reached the years of manhood, he bore well his part among his comrades and prior to his discharge with the regiment June 21, 1865, had won a gallant record as a brave and dashing cavalryman.
After leaving the army, Mr. Gee, returned to Michigan and began work at the trade of carpenter and builder, at which he continued to employ for a number of years. He was married at Petersburgh, Monroe, county, April 15, 1868 to Miss Margaret A. Prather, a lady of many graces and virtues of mind and heart.
In the fall of that year he took up his residence in West Bay City, remaining there until 1870, when he removed to Ironton, MO, in which place he remained some years, after which he became a resident of Jackson, MI. Here he resided until 1880, when he went to Toledo, OH and engaged with O. L. Matthews, a pension attorney, in whose interest he traveled a few months. He then returned to Jackson, opened an office, and has since been very successfully carrying on the business of a pension lawyer. Having himself been a soldier, he is a friend of all those who belonged to the army and looks very carefully into the claims that are presented to him, giving good advice and using his best endeavors to obtain justice for his clients. Mr. and Mrs. Gee have one child, Maria Elizabeth. Mr. Gee is a member of Jackson Lodge No. 17, AF&AM and of Ryder Post No 12, GAR; he is a member of and Quartermaster of E. B. Griffith Commandery, UVU No 24, Department Michigan Lodge.
The family is a member of the Evangelical Church and Mr. Gee is Superintendent of the Sunday school. His upright and manly character, his intelligent interest in good works and his pleasant manners, win for Mr. Gee the respect and friendship of those with whom he associates and his estimable wife and daughters are not lacking in esteem and goodwill from their many acquaintances.
