DEATH OF ROY EARL
Fatal termination of the Pine Grove accidental Shooting.
Roy Earl, son of David Earl of this city who was accidentally shot at Pine Grove last week Thursday, died at eight this morning, aged 12. Many of his symptoms had indicated improvement, but the latter part of yesterday he lost ground. The internal injuries especially in the lungs, continued to grow worse. He was very plucky and determined to get well. Two hours before his death, however, he kissed all the family. Funeral at Bethel Baptist church in this city Thursday at one o'clock, services by Elder Walker of Gobleville. Kalamazoo Daily Telegraph September 4, 1888 page 7

A Card of Thanks. Mr. and Mrs. David Earl, parents of little Roy, take this means of expressing their deeply felt gratitude to ladies and gentlemen in Pine Grove and to friends here who have done all that love and generosity could to aid the family and minister to his comfort. Especially to Frank Evers, Dr. Mason and J. W. Marvin. Mr. Marvin stood by Roy all the way from Pine Grove, fanned and did everything to make the wounded boy comfortable; also to the children who contributed flowers at the funeral. [Sickness in the family has prevented this acknowledgement till now.] Kalamazoo Daily Telegraph September 11, 1888 page 7
