In Loving Memory of Eric Woodbury Coolidge (1930-2023)

Born in Clinton, Massachusetts, to John and Arline B. (Woodbury) Coolidge, of Hudson, Massachusetts, Eric Coolidge completed the family unit along with his older brother, John Jr. who predeceased him. Eric was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Richard L. Reese in July of this year. Eric led a life defined by love, dedication, and service. He leaves behind a legacy that resonates through the generations he touched and the memories he created.

Eric's journey of 93 years, ending on August 14, 2023, in South Yarmouth, MA, was shaped by his devotion to family. In October of 1951, he united in marriage with his beloved wife, June (Stone), whom he met while attending Hudson High School. Their enduring love story spanned beyond 71 remarkable years, a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other. Together, they raised four children, Lynda, Denise, Robert, and Mark, instilling in them the values of love, compassion, and unity that Eric held dear.

A distinguished veteran, Eric served with honor in the Air Force from 1949 to 1953. Stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he displayed his dedication to his country and received various service medals in recognition of his commitment.

Beyond his military service, Eric was a man of diverse interests and passions. An avid golfer, he was a proud member of the Berlin Country Club, where he pursued the sport he loved and formed lasting connections with fellow enthusiasts. His love of music included trumpet playing in a marching band in the early years followed by his participation in Barbara Krackhardt's musicals in Berlin. He also brought his enthusiasm for life to his career at Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey, where he formed lifelong friendships while dedicating his talents until his retirement in 1992.

Eric's spiritual devotion was evident through his regular attendance at the First Parish Church of Berlin. He shared his love of music there as a member of the church choir, along with his wife, June.

He also participated as a Deacon over the years, and worked on the annual Friendship Village Fair in various capacities, also along with June. But it was in his social interactions that Eric truly shone. A friendly and sociable soul, he cherished the time spent with his friends and family. He enjoyed a good laugh and comradery with friends. His loyalty, kindness, and genuine nature made him a cherished companion to those fortunate enough to know him. From lively conversations to shared laughter, Eric's presence brightened any room even in his last days with his Hospice nurses.

Eric will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father, loving friend, and a dedicated patriot. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his children – Lynda Reese of Billings, MT, Denise Coolidge and husband, Ken Jameson, of Yarmouth Port, MA, Robert Coolidge of West Yarmouth, MA, and Mark Coolidge of Newtown, PA – and their families, including grandchildren – Trevor (and Cristin), Wesley (and Laura), and Eric Smith, Justin (and Marcie) and Nicole Wheeler, Matthew and Nathan Coolidge, Aaron (and Kallee), Caitlyn, and Caralyn Coolidge, and Ryan Miller – as well as 9 great-grandchildren – Trysten, Alyssa, Jade, Virginia, Jackson, Lucas, Colton, Maxwell, and Mason. Each life he touched is a testament to the enduring impact of his love, his guidance, and his unwavering commitment to family and the values he held dear.

As we honor his memory, let us celebrate the remarkable journey of a man who embraced life with open arms and left an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to have known him. Rest in peace, Eric. Your legacy lives on in the countless lives you've touched.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 14th in Berlin, Massachusetts, at First Parish Church followed by a service for the family at South Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Eric's name to First Parish Church, Memorial Committee, 24 Central St., Berlin, MA 01503 or VNA Hospice, Hyannis, MA.
