Maj. WILLIAM M. FOSTER,
well known throughout this
section of the state as a
Baptist Minister, former
member of the legislature,
Confederate veteran and poet,
died late Monday at the home
of his daughter,
DR. MOLLIE E. FOSTER,
at Cherokee Springs.
He was 90 years of age and
had been ill only about 24
hours with pneumonia.
The funeral service will be
conducted this morning at
Cherokee Springs Baptist
Church, the REV. W.P. SMITH
officiating.
He will be buried with Masonic
honors.
Major FOSTER is survived by
two sons,
E.J. FOSTER, Cherokee Springs
and W.A.T. FOSTER of Fairforest;
and 3 daughters,
DR. MOLLIE FOSTER, and
MRS. R.E. HOPKINS, Cherokee Springs
and MRS. FLORENOE F. SPELLINAM,
Savannah, Ga.
His wife whom was
MISS SARAH SURRATT of Gaffney died
several years ago and was
buried at Spartanburg.
Major FOSTER was wounded at
Fair Oaks, Va.
during the battle of Seven Pines...
