Amos was the son of Francis Eugene Handy, Sr. and Mary Frances Corbin. He was married four times. First marriage was to Ida May Richardson on 25 April 1898 in Maine. Second was to Julia Eubrig Weber in Hopkinton. Third to Ellen C. Koepke Chandler 11 March 1957 in Hopkinton. Also married to Esther A. McCarthy who died May 5, 1945.

He had one daughter born to Ida May. Her name is Mildred A. Handy and she was born in Maine in 1904.
