ABERDEEN - Jeff Phillips died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 3, 1937, in Aberdeen to Silas Jefferson and Loy Britt Phillips. He attended Aberdeen High School. He worked in construction for many years and was officer manager for William Rosemond Architectural Associates for 32 years. He was an active member of the Aberdeen Church of Christ, where he served as an elder. His hobbies were woodworking, deer hunting and collecting eagles. The special joy in his life was spending time with his grandchildren.


Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Minister Charles Tharp officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.


Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jewel Rodgers Phillips of Aberdeen; one son, Dr. Darrell Phillips and wife, Annette, of Portland, Ore.; three granddaughters, Claire Elizabeth Phillips, Sydney Marie Phillips and Meredith Elaine Phillips; one stepgrandson, Aaron Gentry; one stepgranddaughter, Shelly Gentry; two sisters, Emma Jean White and Mary Dean Moates; several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Bettie and Andrew Rodgers; one sister, Onnie Calcote; one half brother, S.J. Phillips; two half sisters, Mattie Jane Baucom and Jeffie Mae Phillips; and one niece, Cynthia Calcote.


Pallbearers will be Tom Allmond, James House, Billy Stockton, Dwight McComb, James Stockton, Ernie Allmond, John Allmond, John McArthur, Jimmy Grace and Todd Wilemon.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Vale Children's Home, 1872 County Road 700, Corinth, MS 38834; or the charity of the donor's choice.
