Ernest loved gardening and he was an avid N.Y. Yankee and Buffalo Bills fan. He was a member of the Campbell American Legion, the Loyal Order of the Moose in Corning, and the Marine Corp League. He served in the US Marine Corp and he retired from Dresser Rand in 1998 following 38 1/2 years of service.
He is survived by wife of 50 years, Lena, son, Michael Scanlon, daughter, Deborah Ann (Mark) Gurnsey, step-son, Darin (Amy) Terwilliger, granddaughters, Brittany and Oliva Page and Hailey Terwilliger, several nieces, nephews, and friends. Ernest was predeceased by two infant daughters, his sisters, Genevieve Crane, Dorothy Craft, Mary King, Mina Marie Comstock and Lucy Crane, and brothers, Robert, Raymond, Kenneth, and Clifford Scanlon,
A graveside service will take place at Addison Rural Cemetery on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 11:00 am. Full Military Honors will be accorded.
