Thester "Moosie" Hawkins Jr., 60, of Barstow died July 4, 2000, in Los Angeles. Born June 14, 1940, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Hawkins lived in Barstow for 40 years and worked as grounds manager for the Barstow Park and Recreation District for 15 years. "Moosie" served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Survivors include a daughter, Kim and Hezekiah Barrett Jr. of Fort Meade, Md.; a son, Adrian Esquivel of Las Vegas, Nev.; a grandson, Hezekiah Barrett IV of Fort Meade, Md.; a granddaughter, Latashia Barrett of Fort Meade, Md.; two sisters, Lena Issac of Victorville and Gladys Murray, of Guthrie, Okla.; three brothers, Leslie Hawkins and Earnest Hawkins, both of Barstow, and Charles Hawkins of Omaha, Texas; two uncles, John Turner and Marshall Turner, both of Omaha, Texas; an aunt, Annie Lee Mack of San Francisco; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Hawkins was preceded in death by his parents Thester Sr. and Sadie Mae, who passed away in an automobile accident in 1955 on Highway 66 east of Grants, N.M.
