Lee R. Moyer, 60, of Reading, formerly of Mertztown, died on Monday, July 31, 2017, in Exeter Greens Care and Rehabilitation Center, Exeter Township.
Born in Allentown, Lee was a son of the late Elmer T. and Mae E. (Miller) Moyer.
He was a 1975 graduate of Brandywine Heights High School, Topton. Lee was most recently employed as a Front Desk Clerk at Econo Lodge at Reading Airport, Bern Township. Mr. Moyer was employed by the American Red Cross at its Reading Chapter, as an instructor and with Disaster Relief Services, until his retirement. Lee's true passion was Emergency Medical Services, in the mid 1980's before advanced life support services were available in Berks County, Lee, along with several other members of Topton, Kutztown, Fleetwood and Oley ambulance corps, joined forces to form North Eastern Berks Advanced Life Support. He became one of the first state certified paramedics in Berks County. Lee volunteered thousands of hours with NEBALS to contribute to the success of the organization and see through the 'vision' of providing advanced life support in those communities. Lee also served as a captain of Topton Community Ambulance. Flea, as he was fondly referred to, served as a fire fighter with the Topton Volunteer Fire Company, Topton.
Lee is survived by his "Adopted son," Zackary J. Johnson, and his companion, Christy L. Weitzel and their children, Ilyana and Aurora Johnson, with whom he resided; sisters, Sandra M. (Moyer), wife of Donald Brintzenhoff, Marilyn L. (Moyer), wife of Ray H. Schadler, both residents of Kutztown Manor, Bonita J. "Bonnie" (Moyer), widow of Charles Jacoby, Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County, Carol E. (Moyer), wife of Stanley K. Smith, Mertztown; and a brother Gerald E., husband of Coleen (Bauder) Moyer, Mertztown.
He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers: Thomas, David, Timothy, Larry and Randy.
