On Wednesday, August 9, 2023, the Lord took our loving husband and father, John Auberger, 82, Home after his decade-long fight with Alzheimers.

John was the son of Eleanore and Anthony Auberger. He graduated from Wauwatosa High School, Class of 1958. In his childhood and earlier years, he spent summers up north at his family's cottage at Pleasant Lake in Westfield, Wisconsin. He served in the Air Force National Guard as an Aircraft Radio Repairman in the 128th Air Refueling Wing. On May 5, 1989, at St. John Lutheran Church in Burlington, he was united in marriage to Joyce Dettinger. Following marriage, they made the Burlington area their home.

John pursued a career in electrical engineering for 38 years at WE Energies, holding various positions. John took pride in his civil responsibilities by serving as Town Supervisor and Town Chairman for the Town of Eagle, was on the Waukesha County Planning Commission, and later served as a Supervisor in the Town of Burlington. He was an avid skier and was a ski instructor at Alpine Valley. He belonged to the Milwaukee Metropolitan Ski Counsel, Badger Kart Club, World Karting Association, National Rifle Association, and Sports Car Club of America. After his retirement, John actively pursued all of his many hobbies and interests and joined the American Radio Relay League (Amateur Radio), Cowboy Mounted Action Shooting Association, Academy of Model Aeronautics, and the Silver Eagles RC Flying Club National Association.

John loved to study the history of the Civil War and World War II, and built a replica of a Civil War cannon. John's fond memories while serving in the Air Force National Guard led him to pursue his hobbies and interests in airplanes and flying. He loved water skiing, sailing, power boating, and fishing. John's adventurous spirit took him in his favorite Jeep Wrangler, from the back roads of Wisconsin, to the beaches of Florida, and to exploring the ghost towns along the Jeep trails in the Colorado mountains. Always challenging himself, he enjoyed trail riding, team penning and cowboy mounted shooting with one of his many horses. He enhanced his technical knowledge through the use of computers, stereo equipment, photography, and videography. John also had an extensive movie collection and a love for music.

John is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; children, Jeff (Shelly) Auberger, Jill (James) Burnett and Heather Krueger; grandchildren, Nick Auberger, Nate Auberger, Max Burnett and Sophie Burnett; sister, Linda (Raymond) Pszybylski; and former spouse, Carole McKittrick. He also leaves behind his beloved Sheltie and constant companion, Louie. He was preceded in death by his parents.

John had such a curiosity for life and a gentle spirit. He had a great sense of humor and he could bring a smile to your face and laugh at you and with you. John had many stories to tell of his adventurous life and leaves meaningful and happy memories for those who knew and loved him. His family will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
