Elizabeth Sue "Betty" Thomas, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the age of 92. As a believer in Christ, she looked forward to the day when she would meet her maker face to face.
Betty was born Elizabeth Sue Trice on May 13, 1930, in Dallas, Texas to Leroy and Doris Evelyn Westfall Trice and was the sibling to sister Janette Trice Burns. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation, she worked as a model for Page Boy Maternity. Although she was not pregnant during this period, she was offered the job and asked to wear gear that would make her look pregnant as she modeled. As a young adult, Betty loved to dance and was a member of the Dudes and Dames Square Dance Club of Dallas, whose group's performances were often featured on local TV stations.
In 1958, Betty and her family moved to Liberty, Texas where she worked part time as a bookkeeper for the Fair Store and raised 4 children. When she decided to retire from the Fair Store, she was told she was "irreplaceable" as she was very meticulous and detailed about everything she did.
Betty stayed busy as a home maker, making sure her home was always perfectly kept and homemade meals with dessert were on the table at 5 o'clock each evening. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and outdoor landscaping. Travel trailer camping with family was a favorite past time and often involved meeting other family members with their trailers at state parks for weekend gatherings and holiday celebrations. Betty had a love for the outdoors and animals and was rarely known to be without a cat or dog as a furry companion.
After lightening struck and devastated her home in 1990, Betty moved to Austin, Texas to be closer to family and ended up calling Austin home for 32 years. While in Austin, she loved spending time with her grandchildren--babysitting, organizing playdates, and making special trips to Wendy's for chocolate Frostys. She loved to needlepoint and crochet, often spending time making blankets to be gifted to expectant mothers. She also enjoyed volunteering at her church, Hill Country Bible Church, where she faithfully gave of her time to assist in bookkeeping needs.
In her later years, Betty joined the Baca Senior Center in Round Rock, Texas where she became a rivaled team member of a women's canasta group and enjoyed spending time with her lady friends playing cards and going on lunch outings together. Macular degeneration would ultimately deny her of this weekly pleasure and began to limit her everyday physical activities.
Betty spent the last 3 months of her life in the loving care of the staff at Round Rock Assisted Living. Here, she was welcomed and immensely loved by the care givers who affectionately called her "Betty Boop".
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Evelyn Trice, sister Janette Trice Burns, and son Stephen Wayne Manning, She is survived by her daughter Kim Dickinson and her husband, Bill of Cedar Park, Texas, son Mark Halfin and his wife, Kippi of Argyle, Texas, son Glenn Halfin of Austin, Texas, grandchildren Blake Dickinson, Evan Dickinson, Jessica Weaver, Darrick Bridger and his wife, Jennie, great-grandchildren DJ and Kate Bridger, and her beloved Yorkie, Emily.
