Earl Scrivner passed away suddenly and peacefully at age 60 at Shasta Regional Medical Center on March 30, 2008. Doctors report that his death was due to an aggressive bacterial infection.

He spoke to much of his family just hours before his death and was reported to be lucid and happy. Earl was born March 28, 1948 to Maxine Bonnadell Simmers and Billie Jim Scrivner in Russellville, MO. His father owned a filling station and he began to work by age 8. He had incredible mechanical aptitude and skill with automobiles. He was a decorated rifleman in the Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam, both which ended with him being wounded. He was a recipient of two Purple Hearts. On his 60th birthday, just two days before his death, he told his son Loren, "well I made it 40 years longer than I thought I would, so everything since has been gravy".

He saw much suffering in his life and vowed to make his life better for himself and those around him. After his tours in Vietnam he joined the Navy and spent most of his military career as an aviation electrician working on P3 and S3 submarine "listening" aircraft. He was stationed in California, the Indian Ocean, Japan, the Philippines and his ship, the USS Enterprise. He also spent two years as a Navy recruiter in the north state so he could spend more time with family. On February 17, 1977 he wed Yong "Cha" Chung, his devoted wife of 31 years. He was a devoted husband to Cha, father to Loren and Mia, and grandfather to Ford and Alexander.

He enjoyed his retirement years and spent time working on his home and going for walks with his wife and dog "Butchboy". His youngest grandson Alexander gave him so much pride, focus and purpose in his last year of life. All of his energy was focused on being healthy for his visits with his "little genius grandbaby Alexander". He enjoyed attending church regularly and found peace and a love of God in his later years. In retrospect, by thinking about his life, recalling many good memories and seeing the outpouring of support from his friends and family, his life was a resounding success with little regret.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Tuesday April 8, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at the church Earl attended regularly, Crosspointe Community Church, 2960 Hartnell Ave., Redding.
